Vision

To be the center of excellence in the field of Library, Documentation and Information Science through an educated and proactive membership and collaboration with other stakeholders in the field.

Mission

To act as the pivotal professional body for library, documentation and information services in the country, by providing library education programmes, setting professional standards, fostering cooperation between all individuals and organizations interested in the welfare of libraries, acting as the forum for the exchange of ideas among members of the association, safeguarding and promoting the rights, privileges and status of librarians and information scientists and playing a leadership role in chartering the course of future library needs in the country.

SLLA Act & Rules

These Rules were adopted at the 54th Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA), held on 20th June 2014 at Sri Lanka Foundation, as amended at the Extraordinary General Meeting of the SLLA on 12th October 2013 at Information Technology Institute in accordance to the Sri Lanka Library Association (Incorporation) (Amendment) Act, No. 7 of 2004 and Sri Lanka Library Association (Incorporation) Law No.20 of 1974.

About SLLA

The Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) was incorporated by Law No.20 of 1974 of the National State Assembly and amended by act. no. 7 of 2004. The SLLA is a founding and executive member of the Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA) of Sri Lanka. It holds membership of the Regional Federation of South Asian Library Associations (REFSALA), Commonwealth Library Association (COMLA) and the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA). SLLA President is the current chair person of REFSALA.

Professional qualifications and training obtained through the SLLA are recognised by the Government of Sri Lanka as the basic requirements for entry to careers in library and information science. As SLLA is the only professional body representing all library professionals in Sri Lanka, its professional courses are accepted on par with those of leading international professional associations.
