Course on Library Automation
In addition to Diploma in Library & Information Science (DIPLIS), SLLA conducts a course on library automation to enhance the skills of librarians in utilizing information technologies for dissemination and retrieval of information. Course duration is one year. The core curricula include the usage of Win ISIS for database management in libraries. The course covers the following areas in library automation.
Introduction to ICT – computers, hardware, software and network systems
Office Automation – includes Microsoft Office programmes; MS Word, Ms Excel and MS PowerPoint
WINISIS Basics – includes basics on developing a database using WinISIS
WINISIS Advanced – includes developing databases using advanced features of WinISIS
Electronic Librarianship – includes using electronic media; CD ROMs, Internet, Online Databases and basics in creating a website.
At the end of the course students are expected to do a project on developing a database using WinISIS.
